Sighting on October 17, 1980 in Saint-Symphorien-d'Ozon (Rhône, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 11:15 pm, several witnesses saw two powerful headlights approaching at an estimated altitude of about 200 metres. When the headlights turned to the left, the witnesses made out a dark craft that they likened to a scallop shell. Two steady red lights shone on its sides. The craft gave off a dull sound.

GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified). According to the investigation, the witnesses very probably saw an unidentified aircraft, which may have been an airship.
