Ain, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on August 20, 2022 in Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans (Ain, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was one or more satellites (class A).

What happened

On a Saturday evening at 9:40 p.m., a witness and their partner saw a luminous phenomenon move across the sky without making any sound. The witness described a very long shape that reminded them of a mesh bracelet. Only one account was collected.

The GEIPAN investigation established that the witness had seen the Starlink satellite train produced by the Space-X Falcon-9 launch of 19 August 2022, the day before. Such a train appears as a series of aligned points of light. The case was classified A, meaning identified.
