Sighting on February 17, 2016 in Salles-la-Source (Aveyron, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a meteor or fireball (class A).

What happened

At around 6:20 p.m., the witness was at home and saw a point of light through the window moving across the sky from north to south. It followed a descending path and was visible for three to five seconds. Only one account was collected for this case.

The investigation established that the witness had seen a fireball, which many people also observed at the same time across the south of France. The event is listed by the IMO (International Meteor Organization), whose website records more than 120 reports from various French regions. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A: identified, a fireball.
