Sighting in Seillons-Source-d'Argens, September 1967

Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting in September 1967 in Seillons-Source-d'Argens (Var, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness reported these events in 2015, concerning an observation made in September 1967, on a day they could not specify. At about 9 p.m., while waiting outdoors for a friend, they noticed a yellow-orange point of light just above the trees. It moved from left to right over a short distance in a zigzag pattern, stopping for two to three seconds before each of its four changes of direction. The witness heard no particular noise and saw no trail.

The sighting lasted about 30 seconds, after which the light quickly moved away and vanished in the distance. No other testimony was collected.

According to the investigation, this very fast luminous ball moving in zigzags is reminiscent of some accounts of ball lightning. However, the account is old, comes from a single witness, and its exact date is unknown. Despite good illustrations provided by the witness, it does not allow this hypothesis to be confirmed or ruled out. GEIPAN therefore classified the case "C", for lack of sufficient information.
