Sighting in Sud-Ouest, November 28, 1991

France

Sighting on November 28, 1991 in Sud-Ouest (France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 10:30 p.m., at least 25 witnesses spread along the Atlantic coast and across the south-west of France saw the same thing: a very bright green ball crossing the sky at high speed without making any sound. The sighting lasted about ten seconds. According to several accounts, the ball broke apart and threw off a shower of sparks.

By comparing the accounts, investigators worked out a general direction of travel from south-east to north-west.

GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified). It considers it very likely that this was the atmospheric re-entry of a piece of space debris, a large-scale event.
