Sighting in Thueyts, November 8, 2013

Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on November 8, 2013 in Thueyts (Ardèche, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 5:40 a.m., a witness lying in bed was looking out of the window at a clear sky. They saw an elongated shape with a flashing light moving very slowly across the sky toward the southeast. No sound was heard during the fifteen minutes of observation, after which the phenomenon gradually faded away.

This was the only account collected, and the report is very brief: the witness did not describe the exact shape, the color or the lighting of the object. The case is not very strange. The witness first thought they were looking at an airplane, and only the apparent slowness of the movement struck them as odd. According to GEIPAN, the angle at which the object was moving relative to the witness might possibly account for this effect. The case, being neither very strange nor very consistent, was classified C because of insufficient information.
