Sighting in Tours, May 7, 2015

Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on May 7, 2015 in Tours (Indre-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the planet Venus (class A).

What happened

At around 11:15 pm, a witness noticed a spherical object in the sky that was unusually bright and caught their attention. It moved along a vertical, downward path. The sighting lasted about an hour and ended when the object was hidden by clouds or fog. Only one account was collected.

The witness placed the object to the east-south-east, "towards the St-Martin basilica". This was contradictory, since the basilica lies to the north-west of where the witness was standing.

Based on the objective evidence gathered, GEIPAN classified the case as A: a definite sighting of the planet Venus, very low on the horizon.
