Sighting in Trouville, August 24, 2011

Seine-Maritime, Normandie, France

Sighting on August 24, 2011 in Trouville (Seine-Maritime, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Two witnesses, each at their own home, observed luminous phenomena in the sky on several different dates. They also saw a dark mass moving, along with a beam of light that lit up the ground. In one instance, a white and purple light was directed toward one of the witnesses. GEIPAN received no other testimony about these phenomena for the dates given.

The investigation was able to explain some of the lights: aircraft, satellites and, above all, the star Arcturus, which was twinkling strongly on those days. On these explanations alone, the case could have been classified A. However, the white light that lit the ground as a beam, the dark "object" and the white and purple light aimed at the witness remained unexplained. There were too few concrete elements to continue the investigation, hence the C classification (insufficient data).
