Sighting in Urmatt, July 19, 1977
Bas-Rhin, Grand Est, France
Sighting on July 19, 1977 in Urmatt (Bas-Rhin, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 11 p.m., a hunter in the forest noticed a multicoloured luminous ball moving across the sky. The hunter kept walking toward the edge of the woods and, at the spot where the ball had vanished, then saw pale-coloured discs that appeared about the size of a plate.
Unsettled, the hunter went to a chalet to find someone who could confirm what was visible. Another witness later told the gendarmes that they had seen three luminous discs hanging motionless in the sky through binoculars. By about midnight, no object could be seen any longer.
No other testimony that might have added to the information was collected. GEIPAN classed the case as C, meaning insufficient data: it records the observation of a luminous ball and discs, without offering an explanation.
