Sighting in Vaucouleurs, January 16, 1977

Meuse, Grand Est, France

Sighting on January 16, 1977 in Vaucouleurs (Meuse, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A driver and their passenger watched an orange luminous ball moving across the sky at about 8:15 in the evening. It had an apparent diameter of roughly 15 cm and was at an altitude of about 2,000 metres. It left no trail and made no sound at any point during the sighting.

The light faded gradually until it went out, three times, and each time it came back on quickly. The object then vanished very rapidly.

The GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning the data were insufficient to reach a conclusion. Its conclusion is limited to the observation of a luminous ball in motion.
