Sighting in Vernoux-en-Vivarais, October 2, 1987

Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on October 2, 1987 in Vernoux-en-Vivarais (Ardèche, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At around 2 a.m., a driver and their son noticed several lights in the countryside, spaced a few metres apart. The same sight was repeated at three successive stops they made.

The investigation showed that the lights came from the headlights of a tanker truck, together with two 40-watt floodlights. The truck had been specially fitted at the rear for collecting milk. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A (identified): the observation was of lights about fifteen metres apart, which belonged to this vehicle.
