Sighting in Villeneuve, July 5, 2013

Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on July 5, 2013 in Villeneuve (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

At about 10:20 p.m., several people noticed nine orange lights moving silently across the sky. The lights were arranged in a diamond pattern, and the witnesses found the formation puzzling.

The GEIPAN investigation established that they were a squadron of the Patrouille de France flying at night. Such night flights prompt a few reports of this kind every year. The Patrouille de France officially confirmed the flight, and the confirmation is included among the investigation documents. The case was therefore classified A, meaning it is fully identified.
