Sighting in Vitry-le-François, September 24, 1983

Marne, Grand Est, France

Sighting on September 24, 1983 in Vitry-le-François (Marne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Over several days, between 24 and 29 September 1983, a number of witnesses noticed a circular object in the sky, with an apparent diameter of about 50 cm. It gave off a yellowish glow and sent out rays of varying lengths.

One of the witnesses was able to look at it through a telephoto lens, and made out a dark core surrounded by a luminous ring.

The investigation concluded that this was probably an astronomical observation. However, the available information was not enough to confirm that hypothesis, and the GEIPAN classified the case as C, for insufficient data.
