Sighting in Albi, May 12, 2015

Tarn, Occitanie, France

Sighting on May 12, 2015 in Albi (Tarn, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a hoax (class A).

What happened

After reading in a local newspaper that a fireball had crossed the sky three days earlier, a witness decided to watch the sky. At about 10:45 pm, from their garden, they noticed a luminous phenomenon, together with their mother and a neighbour. The observation lasted around fifteen minutes, and the witness filmed it. Only this witness was interviewed in the investigation.

The investigation found the case to have very little strangeness. Nothing backs up the witness's statements, and the video shows nothing unusual: it appears to be footage of a street lamp in front of the witness's home, filmed through the foliage of a tree. When the camera moved, the bulb alternately showed and was partly or fully hidden by the leaves. The comments posted with the video added to doubts about its validity. The testimony was very weak: apart from the video, the witness gave very little usable information, and the questionnaire was completed only very briefly or incorrectly.

GEIPAN classified the case as A, a hoax.
