Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on April 29, 1977 in Angers (Maine-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Two witnesses saw a cigar-shaped craft moving slowly, first at about 9:15 pm and again at about 10:15 pm. It gave off lights of several colors and followed a course parallel to the Maine river. The sighting lasted around ten minutes, but the statements collected were brief and lacked detail.

The gendarmerie later tracked down a third witness. This person described a separate sighting of about three minutes on the same day, around 9 pm: a red ball with a "tail" moved from northeast to southwest and eventually "went out".

GEIPAN considered an atmospheric re-entry but could not confirm it for lack of sufficient information. The case is classified C, insufficient data.
