Sighting in Angoulême, December 11, 2009

Charente, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on December 11, 2009 in Angoulême (Charente, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 8 p.m., a witness noticed a white light in a clear sky and found it intriguing. It had first moved upward along a rising path, then stayed in place. The witness watched it for about ten minutes and took a photograph.

Unfortunately, the picture could not be used. No other witness account was received to back up the sighting. GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data), because there was too little information and detail to reach a conclusion: it was an observation of a luminous phenomenon in the sky.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
