Sighting in Arc-sur-Tille, December 8, 1979

Côte-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on December 8, 1979 in Arc-sur-Tille (Côte-d'Or, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

Two witnesses were at home when, at 9:52 a.m., they noticed a crescent-shaped object, navy blue and white, with no shine to it. It stood 4 to 5 metres tall. The witnesses heard no noise and saw no particular light.

The object was very close to the ground, near a small grove of trees, and was swaying back and forth. It was about 200 metres from the witnesses, who watched it for a minute and a half. It then disappeared, rising quickly toward the north.

Neither the witnesses nor the gendarmes who came afterwards found any trace on the ground. GEIPAN classified the case as D (unexplained), recording the sighting of a silent, oscillating object 4 to 5 metres tall that followed an upward trajectory.
