Sighting in Argentré-du-Plessis, May 2, 2008

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France

Sighting on May 2, 2008 in Argentré-du-Plessis (Ille-et-Vilaine, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

At about 11:15 p.m., a driver and their passengers noticed a white light moving rapidly across the sky. They saw an oval shape with several very bright points turning inside it. No sound was heard during the observation.

The phenomenon was seen again the same night, around 2 a.m., and the family watched it once more on Saturday 10 May at 2:30 a.m. The direction of observation was given as north-east in one place and north in another.

The GEIPAN considered the case to be only slightly strange. The idea of a nightclub projector, with a laser-beam animation of the Sky rose type, fits the description very well. However, the directions given do not make it possible to say where the probable lighting came from. The case was classed B: probable observations of commercial light projections of the kind used by nightclubs.
