Sighting in Aubigny-sur-Nère, June 30, 2013

Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on June 30, 2013 in Aubigny-sur-Nère (Cher, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a reflection or photographic artefact (class A).

What happened

At 10:33 one morning, a passenger sitting in the rear right seat of a car noticed a white and grey triangle in the sky through the side window. A few seconds later, as the vehicle drove past a row of trees lining the road, the witness took a photo of it with their smartphone. This was the only account collected.

GEIPAN rated the case's strangeness as low. The idea of an optical reflection in the window was put forward at the very start of the investigation and was later found to be probable. The testimony was of moderate consistency: the witness gave little usable information, which may be explained both by the brevity of the sighting and by the witness's young age. The photograph, however, could be analysed and supports the hypothesis with fair certainty. The case was classed A: an optical reflection in a car window.
