Sighting in Avignon, June 28, 2005

Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on June 28, 2005 in Avignon (Vaucluse, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

During the night of 27 to 28 June 2005, at around 4:15 a.m., a witness saw a dark shape moving past fairly slowly. It resembled a boomerang, showed no lights, and made no sound at all. The sighting lasted roughly 8 to 10 seconds.

The witness stated that patches of fog and a fairly strong breeze appeared 5 to 10 minutes later. No other account of the phenomenon was collected.

GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning there was insufficient data. Confusion with an aircraft could not be ruled out, but no other hypothesis could be confirmed because the available information was too limited.
