Sighting in Barberaz, August 8, 2012

Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on August 8, 2012 in Barberaz (Savoie, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 6:15 a.m., as the sun was rising, the witness caught sight of a pale green light and a yellow and white triangle for roughly one second. The light was bright and lay close to the horizon. The source gives no apparent size, direction, trajectory or weather conditions, and mentions no other witness and no physical evidence.

GEIPAN considered that the event contained little that was strange and that the sighting was extremely brief. It could have had several origins: sunlight reflecting off a satellite or an aircraft, or a bolide, meaning a falling meteorite. Because the available information was too thin to settle the matter, the case was classified C (insufficient data).
