Sighting in Belleville-sur-Saone, March 18, 1977
Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France
Sighting on March 18, 1977 in Belleville-sur-Saone (Saône-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
On three consecutive evenings, 18, 19 and 20 March 1977, several people, including gendarmes, noticed an unusual glow in the sky, visible from about 8:30 p.m. It moved slowly. At times it seemed to grow larger and then shrink again. Its colour varied, ranging from white to an orange-tinged yellow. Each evening the glow disappeared at around 9 p.m.
GEIPAN considered an astronomical explanation, but the lack of information meant it could not be confirmed. The case was therefore classified C, insufficient data: these were recurring sightings of a slow-moving glow that could not be identified.
