Sighting in Betton, September 15, 2025

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France

Sighting on September 15, 2025 in Betton (Ille-et-Vilaine, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

One evening, from home, the witness noticed a luminous phenomenon. The object had two cold-toned white lights set side by side, parallel to the ground. They flashed intermittently, alternating between left and right. Their brightness ranged from dim to strong, but the sources never went out completely.

The phenomenon first travelled from east to west. It then made quick turns, first to the north, when only one light stayed visible, and then to the south, before vanishing behind vegetation. The estimated altitude suggested a low flight, and the witness heard no engine or jet noise. Two people were present, but there was only a single account and no photograph.

GEIPAN rated the case as low in strangeness and medium in consistency. The description matched the navigation lights of an aircraft. Data from CAPCODA, the Air Force's air operations planning and control and air defence centre, confirmed that a TBM-700 belonging to the French Ministry of the Armed Forces was present at the stated time and in the stated direction. It was flying a holding pattern, a racetrack, south of Rennes, and its flight parameters matched the sighting. GEIPAN classified the case as A: observation of an aircraft.
