Sighting in Blagnac, September 29, 2005

What happened
A gendarme working at the airport noticed an unusual phenomenon moving at the end of a runway. The witness described it as a boomerang-shaped object and first thought of a remote-controlled device. They were nonetheless surprised when it disappeared at very high speed. The GEIPAN was only alerted on 4 October 2005, and no other witness to the phenomenon was found.
The investigation found the report highly credible: the observation is described precisely and objectively, which reflects the witness's professionalism. The facts were rated as moderately strange. The device had no obvious reason to be in that spot, but its performance remains consistent with that of a remote-controlled machine, albeit a very high-performing one. The back-and-forth movement at the start of the sighting may have been into the wind, and the fast movement with the wind. The description recalls certain drone models, which were very uncommon at the time. Because the account dates back some years, this hypothesis could not be checked. The case is classed C, as the drone hypothesis is not sufficiently established.
