Sighting in Blagnac, June 14, 2016

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on June 14, 2016 in Blagnac (Haute-Garonne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At about 10:35 pm, a witness was in their garden when they saw several orange glowing balls pass by one after another. The objects moved without making any noise, then disappeared toward the south-east. Only one account of the event was collected.

The GEIPAN investigation concluded that the witness most likely saw Thai lanterns. The shape, the color, the arrangement of the objects and their path across the sky all point to a release of lanterns. This is reinforced by the direction in which the balls travelled that evening, which matches the wind direction exactly, a heading of 130°-140° according to Infoclimat data. The case was therefore classified B (probably identified).
