Sighting in Blois, May 11, 2008

Loir-et-Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on May 11, 2008 in Blois (Loir-et-Cher, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a reflection or photographic artefact (class B).

What happened

A witness took some photographs and noticed nothing unusual at the time. Looking at the pictures afterwards, they found odd shapes on them, which surprised them. Nothing was seen directly while the photos were being taken; the anomaly only appeared later, on the image.

According to the GEIPAN investigation, the case has all the hallmarks of a mistaken interpretation made after the fact. The shapes were most probably a pair of insects that flew very quickly and very close to the camera lens, which would explain why they look blurred while the rest of the image is sharp. The case was classified B, meaning probably identified.
