Sighting in Borgo, August 3, 1981

France

Sighting on August 3, 1981 in Borgo (France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 10:55 p.m., a witness watched an object for roughly 40 seconds as it moved very slowly and close to the ground, less than 400 metres away. As it passed, a halo of light lit up the landscape. The front of the object was rounded, and it gave off a large flame of several colours.

The object followed an east-to-west path, tilted slightly toward the ground. The witness feared it would crash into the mountain and expected to hear the sound of an impact, but nothing happened.

The investigation turned up no further information that could explain the sighting. The GEIPAN therefore classed the case as C, insufficient data, and concluded that it involved a flying craft at low altitude.
