Sighting in Bourgoin-Jallieu, November 21, 1981

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on November 21, 1981 in Bourgoin-Jallieu (Isère, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 8 p.m., two people noticed an unusual light phenomenon in the wood opposite their home, which caught their attention. It was rectangular, red-orange in colour, and stayed motionless.

The observation lasted nearly an hour. A green halo gradually formed around the rectangle, and then two very powerful floodlights gave off a yellow light. The object then rose slowly at a 45° angle and disappeared into the sky. The witnesses heard no noise at any point during the sighting.

The next day, one of the witnesses went to the spot and found no trace. The gendarmes were only notified 25 days later, so no marks on the ground or in the surroundings could be recorded, and no other witness came forward with additional information. GEIPAN concluded that a light phenomenon had been observed at the edge of a wood, and classified the case as C, owing to insufficient data.
