Sighting in Bourgoin-Jallieu, August 24, 2012
Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France
Sighting on August 24, 2012 in Bourgoin-Jallieu (Isère, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).
What happened
One evening in August, at around 11:45 pm, a witness noticed an oval-shaped point of light moving in circles in the cloudy sky. It carried on for at least half an hour. The sighting took place on a Saturday night.
Investigators compared this behaviour with that of a nightclub light projector. Two reservations were noted, however: a nightclub in the town said it did not use this kind of equipment, and it seemed surprising for such a system to be in use about 20 km from Lyon Satolas airport. Even so, mobile projectors of this type exist and can be rented, and their beams can be seen from more than 10 km away. This explanation was therefore kept as the most likely one.
GEIPAN classified the case as B: a probable light show.
