Sighting in Bracquemont, August 29, 2010

Seine-Maritime, Normandie, France

Sighting on August 29, 2010 in Bracquemont (Seine-Maritime, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 4:20 in the morning, several people watched two orange points of light drift slowly and silently across the sky. The witnesses described them as reddish-orange spheres flying at low altitude.

The press reported similar events on the same day, but at 9:50 pm.

GEIPAN classified the case as B, probably identified. The description matches those of other cases in which Thai lanterns were observed. A manor house in the area often hosts wedding ceremonies, and the sighting took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday. Together, these points make the passage of Thai lanterns highly probable.
