Sighting in Breteuil-sur-Iton, October 28, 1977

Eure, Normandie, France

Sighting on October 28, 1977 in Breteuil-sur-Iton (Eure, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

The gendarmerie learned from the press that several people had repeatedly seen a luminous phenomenon in the sky. The witnesses did not all describe it the same way: some spoke of a ball, others of a mere glow, white and red, sometimes flashing and sometimes not, and moving or stationary depending on the account.

The air surveillance services at base 105 in Évreux-Fauville had noticed nothing unusual in the sky that day. The gendarmerie gathered no other testimony about the phenomenon.

At the end of the investigation, the GEIPAN classified the case as B: the people had probably witnessed an astronomical observation.
