Sighting in Capens, August 14, 2012

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on August 14, 2012 in Capens (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At midday, a driver noticed a luminous object in the sky that caught their attention. According to the witness, it seemed to have articulated wings and flashing lights. They filmed it and called their spouse, who also saw the object. A third witness saw the phenomenon as well. The observation lasted about three minutes.

The first witness gave a very precise, high-quality account. The three witnesses did not describe exactly the same thing, which is quite normal for the other two, who saw the object from fairly far away and at different times.

GEIPAN considered that there was no doubt about the reality of the phenomenon, which had all the characteristics of a helium-filled party balloon, possibly one that had escaped from its owner. The case was classified B: probable observation of a helium-filled party balloon.
