Sighting in Cavaillon, March 30, 2008

Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on March 30, 2008 in Cavaillon (Vaucluse, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 10:40 p.m., a witness standing on their balcony noticed several red points of light close to the horizon. The lights first gave off a very intense white flash, then moved off while climbing higher. A building quickly hid them from view, so the sighting lasted only a few seconds.

The GEIPAN considered the account too short and too thin to support any conclusion: it involved just a few points of light seen from a distance. The strangeness of the case was rated as moderate, but the description was far too limited for a proper assessment. There were no independent witnesses and no cross-checking was possible, and an investigation carried out long after the event would have yielded little information. The case was therefore classified C, for insufficient data.
