Sighting in Ceillac, June 29, 2008

Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on June 29, 2008 in Ceillac (Hautes-Alpes, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an animal or natural object (bird, insect, pollen…) (class B).

What happened

A witness sent GEIPAN one of their photographs. On looking at it, they were surprised to find an element they had not noticed when taking the picture, so nothing was seen directly at the time. The image shows a bright point followed by a grey streak, and the object looks very blurred.

The investigation concluded that it was probably an object passing quickly very close to the lens, most likely an insect lit for a brief moment by the camera's flash. The EXIF data attached to the file show that the flash had fired. The case was classified B (probably identified): a probable photograph of an insect, taken with flash.
