Sighting in Cerisy-la-Salle, January 29, 1983

Manche, Normandie, France

Sighting on January 29, 1983 in Cerisy-la-Salle (Manche, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Two farmers noticed an unusual bluish light phenomenon. One of them saw a fireball approaching, about the size of a balloon, moving horizontally. It made a whistling sound and then exploded, which sent the livestock into a panic.

Searches for traces on the ground were carried out but produced no further information. The description of the phenomenon suggests a manifestation of lightning. GEIPAN concluded that a fireball had been observed and classed the case as C, meaning the data were insufficient.
