Sighting on February 28, 1978 in Chabeuil (Drôme, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

Between 7:30 and 7:40 pm, a driver and their child, who were in a car, noticed a very bright orange object in the sky. It was crossing the sky quickly from north to south. The sighting lasted about three minutes, and the witnesses heard no particular noise.

The object then came to a stop, set off again slowly toward the south, and vanished all at once. No trace was found at the site, and no other witness account of the phenomenon was gathered.

The case remained without explanation, and GEIPAN classified it D (unexplained).
