What happened
One witness reported two separate sightings. The first took place during a holiday in the Aude region, around 22 July 2009, at about 11 p.m.; the witness could no longer recall the exact date. They saw a very bright, slightly oval sphere moving across the sky from west to east. It abruptly changed course and then vanished into space.
The second sighting happened on 24 September 2009 at 7:55 a.m., from the witness's home. A flying object that intrigued them crossed the sky from north to south, then quickly disappeared.
For the first sighting, the possibilities of ball lightning and meteors could not be checked, because the date and time remained uncertain. Meteor activity did occur on 25 July 2009 at around 11:45 p.m. local time, but it does not appear to match what the witness saw. For the second sighting, the most likely explanation was an aircraft lit by the rising sun. GEIPAN classified both cases as C, owing to a lack of precision and information.
