Sighting in Châteaugiron, May 17, 2008

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France

Sighting on May 17, 2008 in Châteaugiron (Ille-et-Vilaine, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

Several people were in a vehicle at about 1:45 in the morning when they noticed a luminous phenomenon that intrigued them. Two opaque white masses were moving across the sky. Their shapes kept changing, and they appeared and then vanished within a few seconds.

Visibility was excellent. A recent article in the local press had already stirred the witnesses' curiosity, and lighting-animation projectors are becoming ever more sophisticated. All of this caught them off guard and led them to report what they had seen. According to the GEIPAN, it was almost certainly a case of mistaking a Sky Rose-type projector for something else. Another witness very probably saw the same thing the following night, in a nearby town.

The GEIPAN classified the case as B: probable observation of Sky Rose-type light animations.
