Sighting on June 15, 2009 in Chemillé (Maine-et-Loire, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a meteor or fireball (class B).

What happened

Two military personnel were on patrol at around 10:40 p.m. when a very bright green ball passed across their field of view. It moved silently in a straight line along a downward path. The phenomenon stayed in sight for 5 to 6 seconds, then vanished abruptly at the horizon.

According to the GEIPAN, this description matches a typical bolide report. The investigation concluded that the witnesses had most likely seen a meteoroid (meteorite) entering the atmosphere. The case was therefore classified B, probably identified.
