Sighting in Chenôve, November 10, 1977

Côte-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on November 10, 1977 in Chenôve (Côte-d'Or, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Two witnesses, at home, noticed a motionless point of light in the sky at 7:15 a.m. that caught their attention. Around 7:35 a.m. it began to move. They then made out a greyish, elongated object with a perfectly smooth surface, followed by a trail that quickly faded. The object sped up and disappeared behind a hill at about 7:40 a.m. The witnesses heard no sound at any point during the observation.

The control tower of the air base and the Dijon-Longvic weather station noticed nothing in particular. Visibility there was rather poor at the time.

GEIPAN classed the case as B: the witnesses had probably observed a meteorological weather balloon.
