Sighting in Colomiers, May 25, 2013

The GEIPAN received this account in May 2015, describing sightings made in May 2013. On three consecutive evenings, 25, 26 and 27 May, at some point between about 9 and 10 pm (the exact time remained uncertain), the witness and two other family members saw three yellow-orange lights low in the sky to the west. The lights first stayed still, then moved downward until they disappeared behind the urban landscape. No particular noise was heard. The lights were watched with the naked eye and with binoculars, which accounts for differing descriptions of the phenomenon (shape, colours). Only one questionnaire was collected.

The investigation noted several strange features: the unusual appearance of the stars and a "bar" of light seen through binoculars (reported by two of the witnesses), and the movement of the lights, which the main witness described precisely. This movement was not part of the third witness's account, and the second witness gave a confused version without mentioning it spontaneously, so that testimony did not confirm the first. Two explanations were considered, helicopters or drones, but neither could reasonably be retained (probability below 30%).

The consistency of the testimony was judged weak. The main witness, who had been interested in UFOs since adolescence, took no photos or video and called no friends or neighbours, even on the third evening, and waited two years before reporting, although they had spoken publicly about it on forums and in the press. Inconsistencies and contradictions on notable points were also found. With no plausible explanation, but with testimony too weak to establish the sighting as genuinely unexplained, the GEIPAN classified the case as C, for lack of reliable information.
