Sighting in Colomiers, October 9, 2025

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on October 9, 2025 in Colomiers (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a train or group of satellites (class A).

What happened

One evening around 8:48 pm, from the terrace of their home, the witness noticed three white points of light at very high altitude. They formed an equilateral triangle that kept a constant size, and they moved in a straight line at a steady pace from south to north. When they reached the zenith, one of the points briefly flared very brightly, which the witness compared to a satellite glint. After about two minutes the brightness of the group faded, and the lights then disappeared behind a roof.

The witness thought of Starlink® satellites or aircraft, but searches on dedicated apps turned up nothing. What struck them as strange was seeing three points travel together. There was only one witness and no photo or video, so the GEIPAN rated the consistency as medium.

The investigation explored a single hypothesis, a triplet of Chinese satellites, and found it well supported. The stable triangle and straight-line motion fit a formation flight. The website inthesky.com confirmed that between 8:48 and 8:50 pm the Yaogan-40 02 (A/B/C) triplet, launched from China on 11 May 2025, passed over on a south-to-north orbit. The witness had put the spacing between two points at 12 to 13°, whereas comparable cases and measurements on the maps give about 5°, so they most likely overestimated it. The sudden brightening of one point is a satellite flare, already filmed for the Yaogan 16 triplet. The GEIPAN classified the case as A.
