Sighting in Condat-sur-Ganaveix, March 2, 2014

Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on March 2, 2014 in Condat-sur-Ganaveix (Corrèze, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a reflection or photographic artefact (class A).

What happened

Between 6:30 and 7:00 pm one evening, a witness who was closing their shutters noticed a white light moving slowly above the rooftops of the houses in the housing estate. They took photographs before trees hid it from view. The observation lasted about thirty minutes. No other witness came forward.

What struck the witness most was the appearance of overlapping luminous rectangles, which they only discovered afterwards on the photos. The investigation showed that the pictures had been taken through a glass door, and that the rectangles were reflections of the rectangular flash of the Minolta camera used. The light seen outside, which had probably surprised the witness enough to make them pick up their camera, is hardly described in their account.

GEIPAN therefore based its conclusion only on what the witness described and found strange, namely the luminous rectangles, which were a photographic artefact. The case is classified A: photographic reflection.
