Sighting in Coulounieix-Chamiers, October 27, 2009

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on October 27, 2009 in Coulounieix-Chamiers (Dordogne, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

A witness sent the GEIPAN footage they had filmed during two observations made from the same spot, the first on the day of the case and the second about two weeks later. In both sequences they had noticed white streaks in the sky, along with "black balls" crossing it at high speed.

The investigation concluded that the white streaks were probably aircraft contrails or atmospheric trails. The black balls were most likely birds or insects passing in the foreground of the video, rather than objects far off in the sky.

No gendarmerie report or other investigative material was available. The GEIPAN therefore classified both observations as B: probably natural phenomena.
