Sighting in Crécy-en-Ponthieu, September 21, 1952

Somme, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on September 21, 1952 in Crécy-en-Ponthieu (Somme, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness, a child at the time, was returning from holiday in their parents' car when another motorist, stopped at the roadside, made them pull over. Close by, a circular, metallic grey craft was hovering above a field at a height of about 15 metres. It suddenly moved off, then came back down to its original position before leaving again toward the clouds. No other testimony was gathered about the phenomenon.

The account was submitted to the GEIPAN only in 2010, 58 years after the events, and comes from a single witness. It does not match any of the usual misidentifications. An investigation would have been very difficult: since the case dates from the start of the 1950s UFO wave, the GEIPAN published it as it stood, without investigating, so that it could possibly be compared with similar sightings. Because of insufficient information, it is classified C.
