Sighting in Créon, July 18, 2009

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on July 18, 2009 in Créon (Gironde, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 10:40 pm, a witness noticed about twenty orange luminous balls just above the horizon. They moved horizontally, all together, and no sound could be heard. The witness lost sight of them when the surrounding landscape hid them from view.

The GEIPAN considered that the description strongly pointed to a formation of flying lanterns: roughly twenty glowing balls that were not dazzling and drifted slowly, all at the same time. The case was classified B (probably identified), the sighting most likely being flying lanterns.
