Rhône, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on July 21, 2009 in Dareizé (Rhône, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

Two people noticed a white point of light in the sky moving silently from west to east until it disappeared at the horizon. One of the two witnesses took photographs of it. They then contacted the GEIPAN by telephone to describe the sighting, and afterwards sent a written account together with the photos.

The investigation concluded that the witnesses had seen the International Space Station (ISS) passing overhead. The case was therefore classified A, meaning identified.
