Sighting in Decize, December 5, 1979

Nièvre, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on December 5, 1979 in Decize (Nièvre, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 5:40 p.m., the witness noticed a ball in the sky that appeared about the size of an orange and had an orange glint. It moved along while spinning on itself, alternately rising and descending. The witness heard no sound.

The sighting lasted a quarter of an hour. The ball then sped away very quickly toward the south-east and disappeared. The next day, at the same time, it was visible again: its size changed three times, and it then vanished toward the west. Only one other witness had seen a similar phenomenon a few months earlier.

GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning insufficient data. The investigation went no further than recording the observation of a ball with orange reflections moving across the sky.
