Sighting in Diebling, April 1, 2009

Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on April 1, 2009 in Diebling (Moselle, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Several witnesses saw two bright red, spherical objects moving in a straight line across the sky at around 10:23 p.m. No sound was heard during the sighting. The objects gradually drew away and faded from view in the distance.

According to the witnesses' descriptions, several points of light followed the same path, in the direction of the wind, at low altitude and at moderate speed (about 20 km). These features point toward luminous balloons of the Thai lantern type. However, no statement was made to the gendarmerie, so there is no official report, and a thorough investigation was not possible. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, for lack of sufficient information.
