Sighting in Domessin, August 11, 2018

At around 2:15 p.m., two witnesses were sitting in the shade on the terrace of a garden when they noticed a large number of small white objects moving about in the sky. The objects were silvery white and spherical, and they were accompanied by trails. They could only be seen within the halo of the Sun, that is, when looking toward it. The witness described several dozen of these bright points.

Only one account was collected, and no photograph was taken. GEIPAN rated the case as having low strangeness and medium consistency, since two people were present but there was just a single testimony.

The investigation concluded that the witnesses had probably seen insects, pollen and/or dust drifting through the sunlight. The color of the objects and the length of the sighting fit this explanation. The silvery-white trail in particular suggests small spiders traveling through the air by "ballooning". Without a second testimony or any photographs, the hypothesis could not be formally confirmed, and the case was classified B, probably identified.
